چکیده

Some aspects of the reaction mechanisms in multistep selective (amm)oxidation reactions over oxide surfaces are discussed evidencing some of the challenges for surface science and theory in describing these reactions, and for applied catalysis in order to have a more in deep identification of the key factors governing surface reactivity and which may be used to improve catalytic performances. In particular, the role of chemisorbed species in the modification of the surface reactivity and the presence of multiple pathways of reaction are evidenced by comparing the behavior of V-based catalysts in C3-C4 alkanes and alkene oxidation.

Molecular catalysis at polarized interfaces created by ferroelectric BaTiO3 † †Electronic supplementary information (ESI) available. See DOI: 10.1039/c6sc05032h Click here for additional data file.

The local environment at polarized solid-liquid interfaces provides a unique medium for chemical reactions that could be exploited to control the selectivity of non-faradaic reactions. Polarized interfaces are commonly prepared by applying a voltage to an electrode in an electrolyte solution, but it is challenging to achieve high surface charge densities while suppressing faradaic reactions. Fe...

Catalytic and Non-catalytic Conversion of Methane to C2 Hydrocarbons in a Low Temperature Plasma

The direct conversion of methane to C2 hydrocarbons, in a quartz tube reactor enforced by a DC corona discharge, was investigated at atmospheric pressure. The process was carried out in the presence of metal oxide catalysts of Mn/W/SiO2, Mn/W/SiO2 (tetraethyl orthosilicate, TEOS), and Mn/W/CNT (supported on carbon nanotubes). The total yield to C2 hydrocarbons in the presence of metal oxide cat...
